AESG student Aadarsh Parashar attended the sixth annual Advanced Water Splitting Pathways Benchmarking meeting in Los Angeles from June 11th to 12th, 2024. The meeting aimed to develop and validate open-source standard operating protocols for various technologies for hydrogen generation via water electrolysis (low-temperature electrolysis protocols, uncontrolled copies of high-temperature, photo-electrochemical, and solar thermo-chemical electrolysis protocols. Aadarsh participated in the high-temperature electrolysis (HTE) breakout sessions, in-line with his research interests and current work. The highlights of these sessions were (1) immediate R&D needs and research opportunities, (2) ensuring accurate comparison of cell performances and durability trends, (3) HTE protocols and standards that are still missing, and (4) how and who can conduct HTE protocol validation in the most efficient manner.
